President’s Corner – Looking ahead in 2022

Kim Dixon, PFP President

Welcome to 2022, a promising new year. The first PC volunteers will hopefully return to the field in the upcoming months. We continue to build on the successfully renewed MOU between Peace Corps and Rotary International. Rotary and PC staff worldwide reached out to support volunteers during the pandemic, and as well as supporting RPCV-led projects.  We successfully spread the word of the Partnership last year and tripled our membership. WOW, not bad for 2021!

Please review the report of our successful inaugural Rotary-Peace Corps Week. If you want to be more involved with this year’s event, please email us at [email protected].

We plan on more ways for YOU to engage in and benefit from this Partnership in ’22 ,so stay tuned as the committees jump into high gear.  Do you want to get involved? We are looking for members to join a committee.

  • Communications (help with editing or the website, write about a successful project, or provide social media support),
  • Outreach (present to grow awareness and reach new audiences),
  • Membership (support members with materials and ideas),
  • Governance (find our next board members).

Email [email protected] to participate in a committee.

After our December Annual Membership Meeting, we are excited to work with our newly elected board members: Ed Pettitt, Vana Prewitt, Kevin Denny, and Erica Brouillette.  Learn more about our incoming and other board members.

Finally, let me announce our new executive Board and I continue to thank them each for their support, ideas and leadership.  Charlie Hunt as our Vice President, Vana Prewitt as secretary, Ross Feezer as Treasurer, and Steve Werner as Immediate Past President.

Thank you for your passion and commitment as we continue to build on the foundation of the Rotary-Peace Corps partnership.

TCP Global Micro-loans in Uganda: A Rotary-PCV story by Helene Dudley

At twenty-seven, I thought I had all the answers. Now my years have changed and so has my thinking. Much of what I ‘know’ still proves to be wrong, including a recent assumption that market vendors and subsistence farmers lacked capacity for community projects.

Twenty-two leaders of Women’s Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) in Uganda formed the provisional Yumbe Rotary Club which is awaiting formal recognition by Rotary International, but they are already doing community projects.

Save the Date: March 2022 Advocacy Week

The first week of March 2022 is advocacy week for the National Peace Corps Association.

RPCVs are encouraged to visit with their congressional representative and encourage support for the agency.  If you know of any legislators that are Rotarians, please tell them about the Peace Corps-Rotary partnership, and the  community service projects and other works that have evolved from this relationship.

Please let us know if you are planning to participate!
